ABOUT THE JOURNAL

This is an Open Access, Fully Refereed, and Triple Blind Reviewed Journal. The Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Research is an interdisciplinary journal of the sciences, published by the College of Natural and Applied Sciences of Igbinedion University, Okada, Nigeria. The journal promotes the dissemination of research results and scholarly papers globally in the area of natural and applied sciences. These areas include, but not limited to biological sciences, biochemical sciences, chemical sciences, computing, mathematical sciences, physical sciences, etc. The journal is published bi-annually.

AIM AND FOCUS
The Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Research is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal published in March and September by the Igbinedion University Press, Nigeria.

Condensing essential information into just two issues a year, the Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Research has become an authoritative source of informed analysis for all those interested in the study, clarification and practice of the sciences.  The Journal exists primarily for academics and scholarly research, but should also prove accessible for all other groups concerned. The journal offers major articles on a wide variety of topics, refereed and written to the highest standards, providing innovative and authoritative appraisals of current and emerging concepts, thoughts, and practice.

The Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Research is proudly archived on Scopus, a premier online database containing over 2000 leading journals.  It is also archived on Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), one of the largest archiving sites for African and other journals.  The JNASR is fully compliant with the Committee on Publications Ethics (COPE), and the RCUK Open Access Policy. 

Scope and coverage
The journal draws submissions from across globe. Typically, more than 50% of our submissions are from outside Nigeria.  We have published or are currently editing submissions from ​the globe (Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa and Australia)

Editorial Board

The Editorial Board and Review Panel of the JNASR is composed of international scientists, scholars and experts from (United Kingdom, Nigeria, Canada, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, and the United States) who provide leadership and lend their expertise to promoting the journal internationally.

  1. ABARA, Enagu is a Professor of Food and Nutritional Biochemistry in the Faculty of Science, Cross River University of Technology, NIGERIA. He was Deputy Vice Chancellor and Dean of Postgraduate School. Current research interest is in Food Compositional Analysis. He holds a P.hD from the University of Calabar. He was Director of Academic Planning. His current research interest is on food compositional analysis
  1. ABASS Mojeed Olayide, OON is Emeritus Professor of Computer Science at the University of Lagos. He was a Dean of Science and former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, NIGERIA. An Educator, computer scientist, and researcher. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo, CA. He joined the University of Lagos and attained full Professor before he was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University. Following his retirement in 2008, he was honored by the University with the book entitled: Olayide Abass: On the dynamics of an Evolving Knowledge Society. In 2012, he was elected as fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science. He is currently the President of the University of Lagos Alumni Association. His current research is on modelling and simulation. He has successfully supervised 14 Ph.Ds.
  1. ADERIBIGBE, Esther is a Professor of Microbiology in the Faculty of Science,, Ekiti state University, Ado-Ekiti, NIGERIA. General field of specialization: Biological Systems and Organisms. Member of Nigerian Society for Microbiology, Nigerian Society for Experimental Biology, and Biotechnology Society of Nigeria. Published over 60 journal articles. She was the DVC (Development) and Director, CGDS. Her current research is on fermented plant seeds. She has successfully supervised 2 Ph.Ds.
  1. AIGBEKAEN, Eddy is a Senior Lecturer in physics at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State of NIGERIA. His research specialty is in Phonon dispersion of fcc and bcc metals and condensed matter physics.
  1. AKANYA, Helmina Olufunmilayo is a Professor of Biochemistry in the School of Life Sciences, Federal University of Technology, Minna, NIGERIA. She was HOD and Dean of Science. She is a member of the Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Nigeria. Her current research is on purification of cellulosic enzymes from mushrooms and production of edible films from organic polymers. She has successfully supervised 9 Ph.Ds Her research interests are majorly in the areas of retinol (vitamin A) in relation to measles and malnutrition, dietary management of diabetes, anti-malaria and anti-diabetic potentials of medicinal plants, nutritional values of insects, purification and characterization of cellulosic enzymes from mushrooms and of recent production of edible films from starch and chitosan.
  1. ANOSIKE, Chioma A. is a Professor of Pharmacological and Nutritional Biochemistry in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Nigeria, NIGERIA. Her research interest and activities are on plants used for human nutrition and their potential roles in the treatment and management of diseases, and she has published papers in several local and international journals. She supervises undergraduate final year research project, M.Sc dissertation and Ph.D thesis in Nutritional and Pharmacological biochemistry. Prof. Anosike is a member of the West Africa Society for Pharmacology WASP/SOAP, and the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB).
  1. ANYANWU, Longy O. is a Professor of Computer Science and Information Technology, HOD of Computer Science and IT, and Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State of NIGERIA. He is a strong and active researcher and educator in the areas of Computer Science and Information Technology for over a half-century of university education. A multi-disciplinary author and publisher of over 8 books, over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, and international conference presentations, he has secured a variety of research grants. Major research areas include: Computer Software Engineering, Cyber and Communication Security. Prof. Anyanwu has been on the Editorial Boards and Review Panels of over 5 international journals. He is a Fellow of Computer Professionals (Registration council) of Nigeria (CPN), Fellow of Systems and Computer Science, USA (FSCS), Member of Nigeria Computer Society (NCS). Member of International Assoc. for Promotion of Christian Higher Education (IAPCHE); and Pioneer member of Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), etc.
  1. DENLOYE, Abiodun Akinpelu is a Professor of of Zoology and Environmental Biology at Lagos State University, NIGERIA. He is specialized in Medical and Applied Entomology with strong passion for Biosafety and Biosecurity Risk (Biorisk) Management.  Professor Denloye served as Researcher and Associate Editor with the defunct Concord Group covering Science, Health and Environment issues before he joined the academia on full time. He is the President of Nigerian Biological Safety Association (NiBSA). His pioneering efforts contributed to the formation of the Nigeria Biological Safety Association (NiBSA) in 2010. He is a Fellow of the Entomological Society of Nigeria (FESN), Fellow of the Nigerian Biological Safety Association (FNiBSA) and Fellow of the Society for Educational Administrators of Nigeria (FSEAN.
  1. KEENGWE, Jared Sagini is a Professor of Educational Technology Integration, University of North Dakota, USA. Professor Sagini Keengwe has published over 100 books and articles in refereed journals. Recently, Keengwe was a recipient of the International Institute of Education Fellowship under the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) – a scholar fellowship program for educational projects at African higher education institutions. On USA national level, Prof. Keengwe was one of the 10 recipients selected to receive the 2010 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Teacher Education Travel Award, sponsored and funded by a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York (CCNY). Etc.

  1. MUDAU, Fhatuwani Nixwell is a Professor of Horticultural Science in the College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science, University of Kwazulu Natal, SOUTH AFRICA. He is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Head of College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science. He was the Executive Dean. He is a highly rated scientist and has received numerous awards, including the UNISA Research Chancellor Award, the Best publisher under the GDARD research grant for five consecutive years, and one of the finalists of NSTF awards under the Crop Science category and Research output. Mudau is currently serving a three-year term on the American Society of Horticultural Sciences Outstanding Researcher Award Committee, and has been a member of the South African Society for Horticultural Sciences.

  1. NWANKWO, Wilson is a Professor of Cyber Security & Software Engineering, Edo State University Uzairue, NIGERIA. Wilson Nwankwo is an astute multidisciplinary professional with sound training and profound experience in Computing, Information Technology, System Engineering, Health Information Systems. He is Oracle Certified Expert, Certified Systems Engineer, and a Certified Information Infrastructure Specialist. Prof. Nwankwo is an active member of various learned professional societies including: Nigeria Computer Society; Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria; Project Management Institute, USA; and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, United Kingdom.
  2. NWANGWU, Spencer Chukwumaobim is an Associate Professor of Biochemistry at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo state of NIGERIA. He is a Fellow and Visiting Researcher of Lancaster University, UK. His research areas clinical Biochemistry, medicinal plants, Environmental Biochemistry and Toxicology, He is a strong advocate of local content as key to social change leading to sustainability through collaborations. He is involved in several international funded projects.
  3. OKOH, Anthony I. is a Professor of Microbiology in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology, University of Fort Hare, Alice, SOUTH AFRICA. He is the HOD. Prof Okoh’s research expertise falls within the aegis of Applied and Environmental Microbiology with particular emphasis on microbial water/wastewater quality, biodegradation of pollutants, reservoirs of antibiotic resistance, and bioactive compounds of health and biotechnological importance. He has been involved in various collaborations with eminent academics within and outside South Africa, and have reviewed for over 50 international journals. United Nations University Fellowship (1998); UNESCO Biotechnology Action Council Fellowship (2000). His publication throughput currently stood at over 340 journal articles (as at 25 April 2019).
  1. ONIFADE, Anthony Kayode is a Professor of Microbiology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, NIGERIA. He was the Head of Department of Microbiology for two terms, Acting Dean School of Sciences of Federal University of Technology, Akure. He supervised over eighty students at the Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s and Doctoral levels. His area of specialization is Pathogenic/Pharmaceutical Microbiology. He has authored 120 research articles in local and international journals of repute. He is a fellow and member of Board of Trustees of Mycological Society of Nigeria, Fellow of the Institute for Natural Resources and Human Development, and a member of the Editorial Board of many learned journals.
  1. OSOFISAN Adenike is the Foremost Academic, Computer Scientist and Trail Blazer and the first set of graduates in Computer Science to be produced by any University in NIGERIA. She is the very first African Female Professor of Computer Science. She has celebrated her Special Recognition Award with DG, NITDA. Professor Osofisan was the Pioneer President, Nigeria Women in Information Technology (IT) in 2003. In 2005, she became the first female President and Chairman of Council, Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN). She is Fellow and Life Member, Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and has served on the National Executive Council of Nigeria Computer Society (NCS). She has over 80 authored publications in national and international journals and conference proceedings and has received many national and international prizes, scholarships awards for the development of Information Technology and Computer Science Education in Nigeria and Africa.

PAPER SUBMISSONS 

The JNASR published by the College of Natural and Applied Sciences of Igbinedion University, Okada, welcomes the submission of solicited and/or unsolicited manuscripts. We welcome submissions that focus on any aspect of natural and/or applied sciences. We also welcome book reviews, case comments and public lectures.
Selected articles would be published in hard copy and also prominently displayed on the institutional website as a resource for scholars and practitioners worldwide. Papers must be based on original research, conformant to the usual standard of academic publishing, fully referenced and presented in the standard format employed by the JNASR. Papers will be evaluated based on their contemporary relevance, contribution to their selected fields of research, structure and analytical vigor. Please refer to the submission guide below.

PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Length and Footnotes

1) Articles should be between 5000-8000 words and should advance scientific scholarship and knowledge in a specific area of natural and applied sciences.

2) Articles should include an abstract of approximately 250 words that is not an extract from the article itself.

3) Details of the author should be supplied as the first footnote, attached by an asterisk to the author’s name.

All authors should approve the final version of the manuscript prior to submission. Once a manuscript is submitted, it is therefore assumed that all authors have read and given their approval for the submission of the manuscript.

Conflict of interest

Reviewers should disclose any conflict of interest and if necessary, decline the review of any manuscript they perceive to have a conflict of interest. Editors should also decline from considering any manuscript that may have conflict of interest. Such manuscripts will be re-assigned to other editors.

Confidentiality

A submitted manuscript is a confidential material. Academic Journals will not disclose submitted manuscript to anyone except individuals who partake in the processing and preparation of the manuscript for publication (if accepted). These individuals include editorial staff, corresponding authors, potential reviewers, actual reviewers, and editors. However, in suspected cases of misconduct, a manuscript may be revealed to members of the JNASR committee and institutions/organizations that may require it for the resolution of the misconduct. Academic Journals shall follow the appropriate COPE flowcharts wherever necessary.

Form of Submission

4) Articles must be submitted in Word format and sent using the article submission portal 

5) Contributions will only be considered for publication if they comply with the style guide. All citations should be as footnotes and accord with the APA format.

6) Authors should please make use of the following checklist prior to submission:

  1. An abstract is included;
  2. Headings are consecutively numbered without automatic numbering;
  3. Headings are not underlined;
  4. Paragraphs are not separated by a full blank line, but only by an indent at the Beginning of the new paragraph;
  5. Footnotes are consecutively numbered by way of automatic numbering;
  6. Footnotes are not separated by a full blank line;
  7. Footnotes appear at the end of each page of the manuscript and not at the end of the manuscript;
  8. Quotations have been checked for accuracy; and
  9. References comply with the American Psychological Association (APA).

Deadlines

7)  We review articles on a rolling basis, for publication in any of our two editions published in a year. Authors should take note of the following deadlines:

  1. Spring Edition: Only articles submitted on or before 12 noon on 30th April will be considered for publication in the spring edition.
  2. Fall Edition: Only articles submitted on or before 12 noon on 30th September will be considered for publication in the Fall edition.
  3. Deadlines are firm, articles submitted after the deadline may not be published. All papers should be submitted by email.

Evaluation

8) Contributions are submitted to three blind referees and the identities of the contributors and referees are kept confidential. Two out of three “Accepts” are accepted.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts are peer reviewed prior to publication. The JNASR utilizes a triple-blind peer review process, to ensure originality, scholarly relevance, and readability, which means that both the reviewer and author’s identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout the review process. To facilitate this, authors are required to submit manuscripts that would not give away their identity.

After respective submission deadlines, members of the Editorial Committee read all submissions and agree which should go forward to the review process. Referees are then assigned by the Committee from a pool of referees according to their expertise. Reviewers are sent a manuscript review template (attached), which provides guidance on key review indicators and on how to communicate review results.

The factors that are taken into account in the review are as follows:

  1. Relevance: Is this paper relevant to the thematic focus of this journal?
  2. Originality: Are the results/ideas novel and previously unpublished?
  3. Significance: Does the paper canvass and discuss ideas that significantly advance knowledge
  4. Soundness: Is this paper technically sound and complete?
  5. Are the claims supported by theoretical/ experimental/empirical results?
  6. Ethics: Is there any ethical issue?
  7. Readability: Is the paper well organized and easy to understand?
  8. Language: Is the paper written in correct English and style?
  9. Citations: Are all sources properly cited in accordance with the American Psychological Association (APA), which is the house style for the journal?

Referees may accept the manuscript, reject the manuscript or require a revision for style and/or content. Each Reviewer will give a recommendation about publication of a manuscript according to the following list of options:

• Accept- No revision needed.

• Accept- Minor revisions needed.

• Major revisions needed- Suggest revision & resubmission.

• Reject- provide appropriate reasons in comments.

Misconduct

  • Misconduct constitutes violation of this editorial policy, journal policies, publication ethics, or any applicable guidelines/policies specified by Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), and Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement should adhere to (PEMS). Any other activities that threaten/compromise the integrity of the research/publication process are potential misconducts. Suspected cases of misconduct will be investigated according to COPE guidelines

Correction and retraction of articles

Corrections may be made to a published article with the authorization of the editor of the journal. Editors will decide the magnitude of the corrections. Minor corrections are made directly to the original article. However, in cases of major corrections, the original article will remain unchanged, while the corrected version will also be published. Both the original and corrected version will be linked to each other. A statement indicating the reason for the major change to the article will also be published. When necessary, retraction of articles will be done according to COPE retraction guidelines

After the reviewer’s report is received, the paper is assigned to an Associate Editor for the review/redrafting/editing process, which can be substantial, depending on the article. Upon receipt of the revised article from the author, and after final approval by referees and associated editor, the Editor-in-Chief reviews the paper and makes a final determination on whether or not to include the paper for publication in the JNASR based on the recommendations of the reviewers and associated editor. The Editor-in-Chief then issues a written confirmation of acceptance or rejection to the author. Once an article is accepted, the Managing Editor will carry out a thorough desk edit and liaise with Igbinedion University Press/the author/Associate Editor over author queries, publisher proofs and corrections.

The JNASR strives to ensure that the time between submission and final decision is as reasonable as possible, without compromising quality.

Journal Complaints Procedure

This procedure applies to complaints about the policies, procedures, or actions of The JNASR’s editorial staff. We welcome complaints as they provide an opportunity for us to further improve our practices and processes, and we aim to respond quickly, courteously, and constructively. The procedure outlined below aims to be fair to those making complaints and those complained about.

How to make a complaint

The best way to reach us is by email. Please send all complaints to the attention of the Editorial Secretary, JNASR via, cnasjournal@iuokada.edu.ng.

All complaints will be acknowledged within three working days. If possible a full response will be made within four weeks. If this is not possible an interim response will be given within four weeks. Further interim responses will be provided until the complaint is resolved.

If the complainant is not happy with the resolution he or she can ask for the complaint to be escalated to the respective Associate Editors or the Managing Editor.

Whenever possible complaints will be dealt with by Editorial Secretary. If the Editorial Secretary cannot deal with the complaint, he or she will refer it to an Associate Editor or the Managing Editor.

Complaints that are not under the control of The JNASR’s editorial staff will be sent to the relevant heads of department. Complaints about editorial matters that are sent to the chairman of the JNASR Editorial Board will usually be referred in the first instance to the editor (and invariably if they relate to editorial content, for which the editor is wholly responsible).

If the complainant remains unhappy, complaints should be escalated to the Editor-in-Chief, whose decision is final.

The rigor of a peer review system ensures the quality of a research article. Academic Journals employs a rigorous peer review system. All submitted manuscripts undergo a peer review process before publication.

Triple Blind Peer Review

The review process is an important aspect of the publication process of an article. It enables authors to improve their manuscripts and aids editors in making decision on manuscripts. This Academic Journal employs a Triple-blind peer review system.

A triple-blind peer review system is an anonymous review system whereby the identity of the author(s) of a manuscript is concealed from the selected reviewers. All details that may enable a reviewer to identify the author(s) of a manuscript are removed from the manuscript before the manuscript is sent to the reviewer. Similarly, the reviewers’ identities are also concealed from the author(s) when sending the reviewers’ comments to the author(s).

Academic Journals considers the double-blind peer system as a more effective review system because it limits possible bias from either the selected reviewers or from authors.

The Peer Review Process

The Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Research employs a three-stage review process – editorial office, external review and editors’ decision.

The first stage of the review process takes place in the editorial office. On submission, a manuscript is reviewed to ensure that it meets the minimum requirements of the journal before it is sent to external reviewers. At this stage, the manuscript is reviewed for the following

  1. Possible plagiarism: The manuscript is evaluated to compare the level of similarity with other published works. The Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Research uses iThenticate plagiarism detection system to achieve this goal. Manuscripts that have high level of similarity with other works (including the author(s) previous works) are rejected at this stage. Authors are provided with the similarity report together with the decision to reject the manuscript. The Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Research is a member of SimilarityCheck. Similarity Check powered by iThenticate is an initiative of CrossRef to help its members to prevent plagiarism.
  2. Scope: After a manuscript has undergone similarity check and the level of similarity is judged to be appropriate, the content of the manuscript is checked to ensure that it fits within the scope of the journal selected by the author(s). In situations where the content of the manuscript does not fit the scope of the journal.
  3. The manuscript still undergoes the usual peer review and may be accepted or reject if it is not suitable.
  4. Recent references: The Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Research encourages authors to cite more recent articles. Preferably, considerable number of the cited articles should be works that were published within the last five years. This is especially important for articles submitted to JNASR.
  5. English Language: The Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Research (JNASR) currently publishes full text of articles only in English language. Abstracts may be translated to other languages and published alongside the English language abstract.
  6. Manuscripts are checked for the structure, organization, correctness and clarity of the language as it adheres to the journal’s Instructions for Authors. The editorial office usually makes correction to minor grammatical errors in such a manner that it does not alter the manuscript. However, in situations where language is substantially difficult to comprehend, the manuscript is returned to the author to improve clarity of the language.

Manuscript that fails in this first stage of the review process are returned to the author(s) for modification and resubmission. This first stage of the review is very important as it enables the author(s) improve the manuscript at an early stage. This first stage of the manuscript review is usually completed within a week.

Once a manuscript successfully completes the editorial office review process, it proceeds to the second stage. The second stage of the review process employs the triple-blind review system. A minimum of three external reviewers are selected from our database, editorial board of the journal or other sources. These reviewers have expert knowledge of the subject area of the manuscript. The reviewers are invited to review the manuscript by sending them the abstract of the manuscript. Upon acceptance to review the manuscript, the full text of the manuscript is sent to the reviewers after the author(s) have been concealed.

Reviewers are required to evaluate the manuscripts and provide useful comments to enable the author(s) improve the quality of the manuscript. Reviewers also score the manuscript in terms of originality, contribution to the field, technical quality, clarity of presentation and depth of research. Finally, reviewers make one of the following suggestion about the manuscript;

  1. Requires minor corrections
  2. Requires moderate revision
  3. Requires major revision
  4. Not suitable for further processing. In this case, the reviewer provides specific reason(s) why the manuscript will not be further processed.

It should be noted that though a reviewer may give a positive report on a particular manuscript, if another reviewer raises concerns that may fundamentally undermine the study and results the manuscript may be rejected.

Upon receipt of the reviewers’ comments, the editorial office reviews the comment. If the two of three reviewers comment positively to accept the paper, it proceeds to the next phase. The reviewers’ identities are concealed from the author(s). The total time taken to complete the second stage of the manuscript review is dependent on the availability of the reviewers. However, it is usually completed between one to four weeks.

Using the reviewers’ comments, author(s) make corrections to the manuscript and submits a revised manuscript. Upon receipt of the revised submission, the manuscript undergoes the third and final stage of the review process. The original manuscript, the revised manuscript and all the reviewers’ comments are sent to an editor of the journal. The editor reviews the manuscript and makes one the following decisions

  1. Accept as it is
  2. Accept with minor correction
  3. Requires major corrections
  4. Send revised manuscript for review again
  5. Reject

Manuscripts that are accepted, as is, are scheduled for publication. Manuscripts that require corrections (either minor or major) are sent to the author(s) to affect the corrections suggested by the editor. After effecting the corrections, the editor reviews the manuscripts again before the manuscripts are accepted for publication. In some cases, the editor may require authors to make corrections a second time. In other cases, the editor may request for the revised manuscripts with (or without) the additional corrections to be sent to a specific reviewer who had earlier reviewed the manuscript before the manuscript can be accepted for publication.

Publication Frequency

This journal now publishes two issues per volume, and one volume per year.

Paper submission fees

This journal charges no submission fees, but may charge for processing fees.

Open Access Policy

This is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access.

Duplicate Submissions

Duplicate submission is a situation whereby an author submits the same or similar manuscripts to two different journals at the same time. This includes the submission of manuscripts derived from the same data in such a manner that there are no substantial differences in the manuscripts. Duplicate submission also includes the submission of the same/similar manuscript in different languages to different journals. The Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Research does not encourage duplicate submissions.

Fabrication and Falsification of Data

It is unethical to fabricate, manipulate or falsify data in a manuscript. The Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Research complies with COPE guidelines in dealing with suspected cases of data fabrication and falsification.

Citations Manipulation

A manuscript should contain only relevant citations. Inclusion of citations that are not relevant to the work is strongly discouraged. Similarly, irrelevant self-citation to increase one’s citation is unethical.
